Day 2: three set win for Galan and Lebron, good debut for Bela-Yanguas

Ale Galan and Juan Lebron dropped a set but still managed to win and qualify for the Round of 16 at the Madrid Premier Padel P1 being played in the Spanish capital. After benefiting from a bye in the first round, in the Round of 32 the Spanish pair, top seeded in the men’s draw, were up against their compatriots Martinez-Ruiz: after a resounding 6-0 in the first set, Galan/Lebron lost the second 6-2 before closing 6-1 in the third. Straight set success for the pair who had eliminated them in the quarter finals at the Roman Major, Belasteguin-Yanguas: Spaniards Aytas and Guerrero, who had come from the qualifiers, were beaten 6-3, 6-2 in one hour and eight minutes of play.

The main surprise in the men’s draw this Tuesday was the loss of the South American pair Silingo (Argentina) and Lima (Brazil): the number 8 seeded players were defeated 6-2, 7-5 by Fernandez-Cardona. A thrilling victory for Bergamini-Ruiz, number 10 seeded players, who prevailed 4-6, 6-4, 7-5 against Spaniards Semmler and Lijo after a battle of almost three hours. Superpibes Stupaczuk and Di Nenno, second favourites for the final triumph, won and convinced against Bautista and Santigosa, who surrendered 6-2, 6-3.

Moyano and Gil, seeded number 12, and Belluati-Ruiz, number 14, also won in two sets, while Diestro and Leal, seeded number 16, came back from behind to win in three sets (6-7, 6-2, 6-4).

On Wednesday, among the others, Coello and Tapia, champions in Rome, will face Sans and Zapata; the Center Court schedul will be closed by Chingotto and Paquito Navarro, finalists at Foro Italico, who will face the Spaniards Gil and Sager.
